Typographic design Assignment 2 - creating a magazine

I left this one a bit late so all the progress in here is from week 13
and I am not working in a group so all this is done by my self
So i started off brainstorming some ideas, and looking at some inspiration for layouts and structure to a magazine
Below is my first attempt to get a feel for the page using Photoshop for one of the feature articles
For the main Theme and styling i am aiming for a professional and informative magazine
At first I was okay with what I had done, but after leaving it a day and coming back after looking at even more magazines and materials, I changed it for the better (also using InDesign now).
In terms of Font styling I scrolled through till I found one I liked and felt that it matched the formal styling that i was aiming for

At the moment all the text is copied and pasted just to show scale and layout, I will leave content for a bit latter
At this time I am still trying to think of a interesting title, with out being so cliche....
also text in the previous page has been mover further away from the spine to avoid fold over
also the small amount of white on the right page actually seems to work well
After trying to think of some kinda of cool magazine name, I came up with ARCHINE which is the combination of architecture and design.... best i could think of...
And turns out that Archine is a Russian unit of length equal to about 71 cm, the more you know.
messed around with a title and cover design a bit creating a title in illustrator quickly, also adding a barcode and QR code linked to my student code and this Behance project.
Due to the lack of pages the use of page numbers and a contents page become quite impractical and would have to much black space or to much text to compensate.
For the feature designer I chose to do Zaha Hadid, since I have always liked her work.
For the lay out I have used a good portrait / landscape photo of Zaha, and it works well since she is looking towards where i have put the text, gives the page a bit of flow, used a slight edit in PS to allow for text to read easier.
With the cover I decided to use a vague image from one of the designs mentioned in the Zaha article as the back ground
The transparency of some of the images had to be changed to since i messed that up some how
For the editorial and publishing information i have decided to replace where the Table of contents would be and adding another page of news to fill the empty page.
Printing
The aim is to print in 180-250gsm gloss if i cant with the classic fold binding method, no need for anything thing else when it will only be 16 pages. If I was to do anything lager and more towards a mechanical design theme i would have tried binding with nut and bolts, because i think that would be a cool idea.
So for the final printing, I got quoted $75 from world wide printing services for a single print of the magazine, at the moment I could not afford that. so i went in to office works (shame on me) and got it printed and bound for $9 (bargain) on 200gsm gloss the only problem is a 5mm border unfortunately, but to be honest it added a nice look.
